Awards and Scholarships for Students Continuing in the JD Program

The following awards and scholarships require application and are for continuing students in the JD program.  If you have not begun studies, please see Entrance Awards and Scholarships.  For information on bursaries available for students in the JD program, please visit Bursaries.

More specific information for most of the awards is available using an online search. When using the search, it is recommended that you type in the Award Number and session in which the award would be provided (most awards are provided during winter sessions).

Student financial aid is critically important to ensuring that the Allard School of Law remains accessible to the best and brightest students, whatever their financial circumstances.  UBC students are fortunate to benefit from awards that have been established by generous donors. To learn more about donating to an award or bursary please see Supporting the Allard School of Law.

Applications are now closed for 2023/24.

Eligibility

JD students should review the Eligibility information for UBC Awards.  In particular, note the exceptions to the 24-credit minimum:

  • Students who are registered with the Centre for Accessibility and are taking a reduced load should apply (please see information about this on the Award application)
  • If you are a graduating third-year student and need less than 24 credits to graduate, you will be award eligible. UBC may choose to pro-rate any awards you receive based on credits enrolled.
  • Recognizing many law students complete pass/fail courses, we do not enforce a 24 percentage-graded minimum credit  limit in the law school. So long as you have a minimum of 24 credits (subject to the exceptions noted above), you should apply for awards.

This list is accurate at the time of publication but is subject to change.
