Janine Benedet joined the law school faculty in 2005 and currently serves as Dean pro tem. Her first stop after her L.L.B. graduation from UBC was a clerkship with fellow UBC alumnus Justice Frank Iacobucci at the Supreme Court of Canada. That was followed by graduate studies – leading to both an LL.M. and an S.J.D. – at the University of Michigan, where she also taught as a Visiting Faculty Fellow. She practiced labour law in Toronto from 1997 to 1999, and was a member of faculty at Osgoode Hall Law School from 1999-2005.

Professor Isabel Grant's main research interests lie in the areas of criminal law. She is particularly interested in the law and policy issues surrounding male intimate partner violence against women, sexual assault, homicide, and HIV non- disclosure. She is currently working on an SSHRC funded project on sexual assault across the lifespan and a project on the ways in which HIV nondisclosure prosecutions have shaped and distorted sexual assault law. She teaches in the areas of criminal law, homicide, sentencing and mental health law.

Dr. Cristie Ford’s research focuses primarily on regulatory governance as it relates to international, US and Canadian financial and securities regulation. In recent years, her interests have expanded to include access to justice and governance issues related to the legal profession. Prior to joining UBC, Professor Ford practiced law at Guild Yule LLP in Vancouver and Davis Polk and Wardwell LLP in New York. She obtained her graduate degrees from Columbia Law School, where she also taught in a variety of capacities.

Karin Mickelson joined the Faculty as Assistant Professor in 1991 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1998. She has taught in the areas of international law, international environmental law, real property, environmental law and legal theory, and has supervised and co-supervised graduate students in a wide range of areas including international environmental law, international legal theory and international human rights. She has also served as the faculty advisor to UBC teams participating in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
