Nicole Loeppky

Business Organizations (LAW 508D)

Nicole Loeppky earned her BA (2002) and LLB (2005) from the University of British Columbia. She practiced as a corporate/commercial lawyer for several years while also teaching legal studies courses at the post-secondary level. Nicole is a past member of the Vancouver Community College Paralegal Curriculum Advisory Board and a past director of Kids Up Front (Vancouver). Nicole has extensive experience teaching legal studies courses at a variety of post-secondary institutions and is the author of two textbooks for legal support staff. Her teaching draws on both legal practice and academic experience to help students understand the legal frameworks.

Dr. Russo obtained his LLB, LLM and PhD degrees from the Allard School of Law.  His research has been primarily in the area of immigration and labour/employment law and he has published several peer-reviewed articles in this field.  He joined UBC as a part-time faculty member in 2017 and was appointed a full-time Faculty Lead Lecturer for the LLMCL program in 2018.  He has subsequently guided the teaching for the Distance Learning and LLMCL programs as well as teaching in the first-year J.D. program.  He has also designed and taught online courses in in Torts and Public Law.

Dr. Russo’s current interests in law extend to human rights, labour and justice issues. He has been invited to present on labour and migration issues to the Royal Society of Canada and the International Labour Organization.  He worked as a legal researcher before pursuing his graduate law degrees.  For almost a decade he served as one of the Federal Government’s representatives at hearings held across Canada to resolve individual claims related to federally operated residential schools.  

He is an active member in the local legal community and a member of the Law Society of British Columbia.   He has taught for the Continuing Legal Education Society and the Professional Legal Education Co-Operative Association, among other organizations, and has volunteered his time with various refugee and human rights organizations in the Lower Mainland.

George Tsiakos

Advanced Legal Research and Writing (LAW 530)

George Tsiakos is the Head of the UBC Law Library where he is responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Law Library. George is also an Honorary Lecturer at the Peter A. Allard School of Law where he has been teaching introductory and advanced legal research and writing courses since 2009. Previously, George was the Manager of Library Services at Bull, Housser, and Tupper LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright) where he worked closely with articling students and lawyers on various legal information and research matters. George is a graduate of UBC where he completed his LLB, LLM, and MLIS degrees. He was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2003 and is a non-practicing member of the Law Society of BC in good standing. George is also an active member of Canadian Association of Law Libraries (CALL) where he has served on numerous committees and the Board of Directors, including serving as Treasurer, First Vice President, and President.
