We welcome applications from PhD graduates for postdoctoral positions.
General information about working as a postdoctoral fellow at UBC is available through the Postdoctoral Fellows Office. Please also see the Postdoctoral Fellows Handbook.
All postdoctoral fellows require a full-time faculty member as supervisor. If you have not identified a supervisor, then please review the faculty member profiles to identify faculty members who are working in your field of interest and contact them to ask if they might be prepared to act as your postdoctoral supervisor.
Funding
The Allard School of Law does not have funding for postdoctoral fellows.
However, the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) provides Postdoctoral Fellowships and UBC administers a number of other postdoctoral fellows awards. Please visit the Postdoctoral Scholarships, Awards & Funding page for further information.
Applications and supporting documents for UBC-administered awards (excluding the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship) must be submitted to Aleks Petrovic (petrovic@allard.ubc.ca) by the internal deadlines indicated below.
Please note that we will update the internal deadlines information as soon as postdoctoral fellowship competitions are announced. For information regarding application for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship please to UBC Postdoctoral Fellowships website.
Application Information
All postdoctoral funding bodies expect a high degree of "fit" between the proposed research and the host department or unit. As a result, it is essential that applicants identify a faculty member in the school who is prepared to serve as a postdoctoral fellow supervisor and then work closely with that faculty member to prepare the application for external funding.
In the case of postdoctoral applicants who are applying for a UBC-administered award, a SSHRC Postdoctoral fellowship, or another external funding body, please forward the application form and all supporting material to Aleks Petrovic (petrovic@allard.ubc.ca).
The Graduate Committee at Allard Hall reviews and ranks all applications for the purposes of UBC-administered funding. If your application is confirmed and your application for funding is successful, then we will provide an appointment letter.
It is the responsibility of postdoctoral fellows to secure all required documents for immigration purposes. Immigration information is available in the Postdoctoral Fellows Handbook.
