Learning Outcomes

By the end of this program, students will:

  • Understand how to explain the Canadian constitutional structure, including federalism, the Charter, and sources of law.
  • Describe foundational doctrines in contracts, torts, criminal, administrative, and Indigenous laws.
  • Apply Canadian legal research techniques to locate and interpret primary and secondary sources.
  • Compare Canadian common law concepts with civil law concepts.
  • Identify pathways for Canadian legal study, NCA accreditation, and early‑career opportunities.
  • Gain knowledge to help with career advancement, to be prepared for future educational opportunities in Canada, and to assist future clients in their home jurisdiction through knowledge of Canadian legal concepts and to make referrals.

Program Format and Timing

Pre-recorded sessions from Allard Law faculty will be broadcast via Zoom. Join virtually and learn together with your classmates and Allard Law facilitators, who are available to answer questions and provide support.

  • Program length: 5 days
  • Program time: 4 hours per day, synchronous sessions

It's recommended that you join and learn together during the course time above, but recorded sessions will be made available after each session.

Assessment and Assignments

  • 30% - Participation & Professionalism: Preparedness, engagement, and respectful cross‑cultural collaboration.
  • 30% - Legal Research Exercise: Short task locating cases/statutes and summarizing relevance.
  • 40% - Reflection Paper: 500-700 words comparing a Canadian doctrine with a civil law counterpart.

Assignments must be submitted within two weeks following program conclusion.

Upon successful completion of your assignments and program, you will be provided a Letter of Completion.
