  • Shigenori Matsui

    Professor Shigenori Matsui joined the Allard School of Law in January 2006 as Director of Japanese Legal Studies. Professor Matsui comes to UBC from Osaka University Law School where he worked as associate professor from April 1983 to March 1994; and as full professor from April 1994 to December 2005.  He worked for Osaka University, Faculty of Law, until he joined the newly established law school in 2004.

  • Albert McClean

    Professor Emeritus

    Albert McClean has been Professor of Law since 1968. Professor McClean served as Dean of the Allard School of Law from 1971-76 and was Associate Vice-President, Academic, of the University of British Columbia from 1985 to 1995. He joined the Faculty of Law in 1960 as Lecturer and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1962 and Associate Professor in 1966.

  • Karin Mickelson

    Associate Professor

    Karin Mickelson joined the Faculty as Assistant Professor in 1991 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1998. She has taught in the areas of international law, international environmental law, real property, environmental law and legal theory, and has supervised and co-supervised graduate students in a wide range of areas including international environmental law, international legal theory and international human rights. She has also served as the faculty advisor to UBC teams participating in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

  • Kaila Mikkelsen

    Assistant Dean, Students

    Kaila Mikkelsen is the Assistant Dean, Students at the Allard School of Law.  Kaila believes that every student belongs at law school and that her role is to support all students in their journey. She provides academic and personal support to JD students, manages academic concessions, participates in Faculty committees and implements programs to support student success. She also supervises Orientation and is an on-site Supervisor for Pro Bono Students Canada. Kaila has a B. Sc. (Biology) from the University of Victoria, an LL.B.

  • Whitney Morrison

    UBC Law Student Society, Indigenous Director of Student Affairs

    Whitney is a second year law student. She hails from the scenic traditional territories of the Gitxsan Nation. She is Lax Gibuu from Wilps xGwoimtxw and was given the name Luuskayetxw. Whitney will serve as the 2021/2022 UBC Law Student Society (LSS) Indigenous Director of Student Affairs and in that role sits on the ILS Committee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia, majoring in Political Science and First Nations Studies.
