Our Vision
We establish and strengthen constructive reciprocal relationships across UBC and with local, national, and global communities, including those whose voices have been historically marginalized and underrepresented.
We acknowledge that Allard Hall and our other facilities are on unceded, traditional and ancestral Musqueam territory and Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territory, and we are committed to developing and nurturing reciprocal and respectful relationships with the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh, and with all Indigenous Peoples.
We are committed to addressing the recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and supporting the aims set out in the UBC Indigenous Strategic Plan.
By nurturing these relationships, we deepen our understanding of local, national and global challenges and elevate the public impact of our research and education.
Our law school is a central hub for hosting academic and professional events to foster the growth of community and the exchange of ideas, perspectives and experiences.
Our students, faculty, and staff have a robust set of opportunities to engage in dialogue, prioritize underrepresented views, and co-create knowledge with local, national and global communities, including other post-secondary institutions through faculty, student, and staff exchanges.
We reach and engage our local, national and global alumni, empowering them to be mentors, collaborators and contributors.
Goals
Academic partnerships: Expand and sustain partnerships with other UBC Faculties and Departments to enhance collaboration and co-creation.
Community dialogue and knowledge exchange: Support faculty, staff and students to engage in dialogue, exchange programs, community-engaged research and knowledge exchange with local, national and global communities for enhanced impact
Engaging practitioners: Strengthen relationships with the legal profession and the judiciary and our community engagement and partnerships with stakeholders.
Decolonization and Truth and Reconciliation: In partnership with Indigenous Legal Studies, take concrete and meaningful action towards decolonization and fully advance the TRC Calls to Action and the aims sets out in the UBC Indigenous Strategic Plan
Alumni engagement: Broaden opportunities and strengthen outreach efforts to deepen engagement and connections with alumni.
