The profile of our 1L JD classes is currently drawn from data collected through the campus-wide UBC Student Diversity Census. The census data is an important tool in assessing how well the law school is meeting its commitments to diversity and the objective of building a legal profession that broadly reflects the society it serves. It will also guide our ongoing efforts to ensure that we have appropriate support available to our students.
We try our best to get a 100% response rate, but the survey is voluntary and response rates vary. Students can access and complete or update their responses in the survey through Canvas at any time, and we periodically update the data within each academic year.
In previous years, we’ve relied on data collected through our Allard Law 1L JD Demographic Survey. Since the questions are different, data from this survey is reported separately below.
The Student Diversity Census Report 2024/25 was recently published, presenting aggregate insights based on the self-identified demographic information provided by students across UBC. This report is part of the university’s commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion by helping us better understand who our students are, where inequities may exist, and how we can take meaningful, informed action to improve their experiences.
If you have any further questions about the data, please contact communications@allard.ubc.ca.
