Domestic Violence & Access to Justice Within and Across Legal Systems
Mar 31, 2023- 12:30 pm — 3:45 pm Franklin Lew Forum, Room 101, Farris Hall, Room 106 and VirtuallyThe Canadian Journal of Family Law is hosting a mini-symposium as a launch event for its forthcoming special issue on the topic of domestic violence. The issue is the culmination of a six-year, SSHRC-funded project titled “Domestic Violence and Access to Justice within and across Legal Systems.” The event will include two panels in which the authors will present their work and engage with the audience. The panels will be hosted in person at Allard Hall and also available via Zoom.

Douglas McK. Brown Lecture - Race in the Roberts Court: Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization
Apr 6, 2023- 12:35 pm — 1:45 pm Fasken Classroom, Room 122 and VirtuallyThis talk will analyze the reversal of Roe v. Wade and the criminalization of abortion care in the U.S. from the perspective of the reproductive justice framework. It will then describe the theory of racism that the U.S. Supreme Court has adopted in recent terms, and it will explore how this theory of racism explains the Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
