Suicide Awareness & Intervention Training

Event Description

Allard is working with the Health Equity, Promotion, and Education team to offer Suicide Awareness and Intervention Training (SAIT)—a free, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive two-part course for UBC students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

For law students, strong interpersonal and crisis-response skills are invaluable, not only for personal well-being but also for professional success. Suicide Awareness and Intervention Training (SAIT) will enhance your ability to navigate sensitive conversations with clients, colleagues, and community members who may be in distress—this is an essential skill in legal practice, particularly in areas like criminal, family, and human rights law. By developing confidence in recognizing and responding to signs of crisis, law students can become more effective advocates, demonstrating the empathy and communication skills that are increasingly valued in the legal profession. This training also reinforces the ethical duty of care that lawyers have towards themselves and their clients, contributing to a more compassionate and responsible legal community.
