Event Description:
Professor Roach will examine remedial strategies for litigators and courts with respect to complex rights violations involving climate change, social, economic and cultural rights and police and prisons.
Professor Takahashi will examine Japanese courts’ remedial approaches to complex rights violations, including environmental rights, and social, economic and cultural rights.
Speakers:

Kent Roach is a Professor of Law at the University of Toronto. He is the author of 17 books including Constitutional Remedies in Canada 2nd ed and Remedies for Human Rights Violations published by Cambridge University Press in 2021. He also has represented intervenors including the BC Civil Liberties Association in several remedies cases before the Supreme Court of Canada

Masaaki Takahashi is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Meijigakuin University.
His research focuses on Constitutional Law, Comparative Constitutional Law, Equality, Remedy, and Freedom of Contract. His recent book, ‘‘Reconstruction of the Principles of Constitutional Equality’’ was published in 2023 by HORITSU BUNKA SHA publishing, Kyoto, Japan.
