Event Description:
The devastating impacts of the climate crisis in British Columbia & around the world have highlighted the urgent need for action across all sectors of society, including the legal profession. Lawyers & legal organizations have a critical role to play in dealing with climate change by providing legal expertise to respond to climate-related risks & opportunities, develop policies, regulations, & laws that address climate change, & advocate for climate action within their own organizations & the broader community.
Join the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL) BC’s Advocacy Committee for an informative & thought-provoking discussion on the intersection of the legal profession & climate justice. The panel features lawyers, academics, & community leaders who will share their perspectives & insights on how the legal profession can contribute to addressing the urgent challenges of climate change.
As part of this discussion, we will also be seeking input on a climate resolution that will be submitted at the upcoming Law Society of BC's Annual General Meeting. The resolution calls on the Law Society to take a leadership role in addressing the climate crisis by developing policies & initiatives to reduce the legal profession's climate impacts, promoting sustainability & climate literacy in legal education, & supporting lawyers in advocating for climate action.
This event is eligible for 1.5 CPD credits in professional responsibility and ethics.
