The Legal Community's Role in Addressing the Climate Crisis

FACL Legal Community Banner

In 2021, the climate crisis became a reality for many residents of BC as extreme environmental events hit close to home. From catastrophic flooding and unprecedented temperatures to disastrous wildfires, people in this province witnessed and experienced the displacement of entire communities, environmental devastation, and the tragic loss of many lives. It has become abundantly clear that all sectors of our society must act to address the climate crisis. The crisis affects all of us, but it disproportionately impacts the most marginalized members of our communities and is destroying the lands and waters that Indigenous peoples have stewarded for thousands of years.

How does the work of the legal profession and broader legal community intersect with climate justice? What can law firms and legal organizations do to run more climate-just practices?

Join FACL BC’s Advocacy Committee for an important panel discussion with lawyers, academics, and community leaders about what the role of the legal profession is in addressing the climate crisis.
