The Unheard Voices of Youth at Risk

This lecture will examine the experiences of young girls in locked residential care as they navigate youth court proceedings in care cases. Drawing from Dr. Shiran Reichenberg's research, she will explore the systemic barriers that silence their voices and the challenges of implementing their right to participation. By critically analyzing legal frameworks, institutional practices, and the perspectives of the girls themselves, she will discuss how to move beyond formal rights recognition toward meaningful inclusion in decision-making processes that profoundly impact their lives.

Speaker

Dr. Shiran Reichenberg, Adv., is the Executive Director of the Clinical Legal Education Center at the Faculty of Law, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also directs the Youth At-Risk Clinic. Her research focuses on children’s rights, youth well-being, access to justice for marginalized youth, the welfare system, and the intersection of gender and vulnerability among girls at risk. Her work bridges legal frameworks and human rights principles, emphasizing the application of children’s rights as fundamental human rights.
