Event Description
The Runnymede Society at UBC Allard welcomes The Honourable Justice Malcolm Rowe for an in-person lecture in the Lew Forum on February 5, 2026 (3:30–5:00 p.m.), on a topic of his choosing. Appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in 2016, Justice Rowe’s career spans public service, private practice, and the bench. Educated at Memorial University (B.Sc., B.A.) and Osgoode Hall (LL.B.), he served as a Foreign Service Officer, practised with Gowling and Henderson in Ottawa (partner), and was appointed Queen’s Counsel (1992). He advised on complex international matters, including the St. Pierre and Miquelon maritime boundary arbitration and high seas fisheries, later serving as Clerk of the Executive Council and Secretary to Cabinet in Newfoundland and Labrador. He joined the Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court (1999), was elevated to the Court of Appeal (2001), and has taught public and constitutional law while holding leadership roles with the CBA and Action Canada. Hosted by the Runnymede Society, a non-partisan forum for thoughtful debate on constitutionalism and the rule of law.
