Come one, come all, for an Equity Lunch & Learn Event at Allard Law on November 20, 2023, 12:30-2:00 pm at the Franklin Lew Forum: The Chinese Exclusion Act and its Continued Relevance: looking back, looking forward, on the centenary of the enactment. Pizza will be served.

This event is a part of the Equity Advisory Committee's Lunch & Learn events that the Committee organizes throughout the year on various topics.

Catherine Clement

Catherine Clement: A distinguished curator from Vancouver's Chinatown. As the key force behind the ongoing "The Paper Trail to the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act" exhibition, she tirelessly engage communites to foster a deeper understanding and reflection on the discriminatory Act.

Dr. Henry Yu

Dr. Henry Yu: A respected history professor at UBC. Instrumental in pivotal anti-racism endeavors like BC's post-apology legacy projects and the "Anniversaries of Change", he confronts and contextualizes the ongoing impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act in contemporary Canadian society.

Jie Cheng is Associate Professor of Law at the Peter A. Allard School of Law. Her teaching and research interests include Chinese law and government, comparative constitutionalism, judicial politics, freedom of information, property law and Hong Kong Basic Law.
