Common Academic Expressions in English

Did you know that approximately 40% of English language use is composed of common, formulaic expressions? While mastering these expressions can be especially challenging for multilingual writers, research shows that they can be intentionally learned and effectively applied to improve academic writing. Drawing on research in applied linguistics, this workshop introduces participants to widely used expressions that serve key rhetorical functions in academic English across disciplines. Participants will leave the workshop with practical strategies for expanding their repertoire of academic expressions to strengthen clarity, cohesion, and fluency in their academic writing. Prior registration is required to attend the workshop.
