Climate + Water Research Symposium

Event Description

The Climate+Water Research Symposium will be an opportunity to form interdisciplinary connections with leading voices on novel issues related to water and climate change. Join on April 10th for an eye-opening plenary on contemporary issues on water and power, an interactive theater based session, and a facilitated research round table discussion

The plenary will focus on Climate, Water and Power, led by Werner Antweiler (Sauder), Natasha Affolder (Law), and John Richardson (Forestry). This plenary will bring together perspectives on hydro electricity, law, watershed management and business to explore the intersection of climate change, changes to water availability and power generation, and recent issues around transnational management of water resources.

The following session is being held with the Research-based Theatre Cluster and Sustainable Water Innovation and Research Laboratory (SWIRL), who will be leading a participatory session surrounding issues of community engagement in water research. They will put on a scene depicting the Community Circle’s approach of working with rural and Indigenous communities around water insecurity, and participants will then be invited to share how they might apply the approaches shown to their interdisciplinary research.

The symposium will close with facilitated round table discussions with UBC Faculty members from multiple disciplinessharing their experieences working at the nexus of climate and water, allowing for knowledge sharing and forming connections between UBC researchers from all backgrounds.

We invite all those interested to register for event updates on our website.
This event is being co-hosted by the Climate Solutions Research Collective and UBC Sustainability.
