African Principles on the Law Applicable to International Commercial Contracts

Description of Event

Prof. Jan Neels, of the Faculty of Law at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, will be giving a talk on the project of the envisaged African Principles on the Law Applicable to International Commercial Contracts. A first draft was published in the 2020 Uniform Law Review 426. In his talk, he will focus on important choices that had to be made between various models and on novel aspects of the Principles.

This talk will be of interest to anyone interested in the conflict of laws (private international law) or the international aspects of commercial law.

Note: Lunch will not be provided but the audience are welcome to bring their lunch in with them.

Jan Neels

Jan L Neels is a professor of private international law at the University of Johannesburg. He was a member of the working group drafting the Hague Principles on Choice of Law in International Commercial Contracts and a general editor for Girsberger, Kadner Graziano and Neels Choice of Law in International Commercial Contracts. Global Perspectives on the Hague Principles (OUP, 2021).
