21st Annual Environmental Law Negotiation Competition

Event Description

The Environmental Law Group is excited to announce our 21st annual UBC Law Environmental Negotiation Competition, which is kindly being sponsored by Lawson Lundell LLP. The event will take place at Allard Hall on UBC’s Vancouver Campus on Friday, November 7th starting at 5:00pm.

The Negotiation Competition has become an annual tradition at Allard, and it is one of ELG's biggest events every year. It involves teams of two law students each participating in a fictional tripartite negotiation that deals with a topic or topics related to environmental law. The negotiations are judged by a diverse group of practicing lawyers who will provide feedback after the negotiation, and we invite law students from UBC, UVic, and TRU to participate. This is a great event to try out some practical advocacy skills, as well as a great opportunity to network with lawyers and peers who share a similar interest in environmental law.

Preparation is minimal and requires no outside research. We will provide each of the teams with a full "problem" containing all of the relevant information needed approximately 10 days before the event. All you need is a teammate! After two judged rounds, the top teams will go on to compete for glory and prizes in a final round that everyone watches. The event also includes a reception, and dinner will be provided.

We will be opening registration on October 1st, and it will close by October 24th. Space is limited, so please sign up early! You can email us at ubc.elg@gmail.com to request the registration form, and we will also be sending it out to students on the ELG mailing list. If you don’t have a partner but would like to attend, please fill out the form anyway and we do our best to pair you up.

Hope to see you there!
