Helen Tooze

Helen Tooze is writing her doctoral thesis at Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the juxtaposition between Canadian and European conventional regulation of the intermediation of complex financial products with a view to assessing each jurisdiction’s systemic risk-related regulation outside of the macroprudential framework.

She holds a Master of Arts in Banking and Law from the Bangor Business School at Bangor University, Wales, United Kingdom, achieving distinction, and an LLB (Honours) degree from The Open University, England. Helen’s broad research interests include banking and securities law, corporate governance, structured financial products, financially structured trusts, mandatory climate reporting, systemic financial risk, and macroprudential policy in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.

Helen served as Chair of the 24^th UBC Interdisciplinary Legal Studies Graduate Conference Committee. She was the recipient of the Bangor Law School Gold Scholarship in 2016, the 2020 David L. Vaughan QC Memorial Scholarship in Corporate Law, and the Laura Bassi Scholarship in 2022. Helen worked as a researcher for the Canada Climate Law Initiative 2019-2022, primarily in the areas of climate governance, disclosure, and comparative climate regulatory policy, and was made an affiliated research scholar in 2021.
