Networking and the Unposted Job Search for Graduate Students

Event Description

This session is exclusively for Graduate and Professional Programs students who are looking for an articling or law-adjacent job in Canada. While many Canadian legal employers hire their articling students through a job posting or a structured recruitment process, an equally large number of employers find their articling student through word of mouth (often after being approached by a prospective articling student candidate). How do you tap into these unposted articling job opportunities as a graduate student? What does it mean to network? Why is networking beneficial to your career development? How do you transform all of this “small talk” at networking events into meaningful connections? Should you still be networking even if you are targeting large employers who only hire through structured recruitment processes (yes!).

Hear from your career advisor Jenn Lau and Professional Programs alumni on why busy legal employers hire through word of mouth, the power of networking, and how to put your best foot forward when using this type of job search strategy and while networking.
