(Event cancelled, will be rescheduled) The Decline and Fall of the Rule of Law

(Event cancelled, will be rescheduled) Event Description

Belying imperial aspirations for the rule of law in the period following the collapse of the Soviet Union, longer-term social trends have progressively undermined the conditions necessary to its sustainment. A concatenation of recent events have remarkably accelerated this deterioration. Whether the rule of law has declined or fallen is for now a matter of perspective, but on its current trajectory, only a matter of time. The present moment, therefore, is one for critical reflection on the rule of law's value and vulnerability. Only by a universal recommitment to rebuild and safeguard it can it be relied on to protect life in society by serving as a bulwark against tyranny, oppression, persecution, unbridled conflict, and disorder.

The Allard School of Law Faculty Colloquium Series features research talks and discussions by faculty members and invited speakers. This series is divided into a series of public talks and faculty-only discussions. All are welcome to join in the public talks.
