Friday, January 26, 2018 - 08:30 to 16:30

Allard Hall, various classrooms

All first-year classes are cancelled on Friday, January 26, and 1Ls are required to attend and participate in the Re-Orientation day events. 1Ls will receive more info by email, including information on how to sign up for two mandatory workshops.  Attendance will be taken at each event. We will provide a pizza lunch in the final session of the day.

LawMap II: Use a Design Mindset to Launch Your Career (9:00am or 11:00am (depending on small group), various Allard classrooms)

  • LawMap is back, this time squarely focused on your career development. In this interactive workshop, you will identify and contrast different mindsets for personal and professional development. Drawing on your strengths and goals, you will be asked to adopt a design mindset to create a career-focused action plan for the next year.

Equity Vignettes Workshop (9:00am or 11:00am (depending on small group), various Allard classrooms)

  • All 1Ls will participate in a facilitated workshop with a faculty/staff member and an upper year student on equality in the law school setting. Feedback from last year’s workshop included comments such as “I (surprisingly) really enjoyed this workshop” and “fantastic experience”.

Indigenous Legal Studies: But I Was Wearing a Suit (12:45-3:30pm, various Allard classrooms)

  • All 1Ls will participate in a facilitated workshop with a faculty/staff member and an Indigenous lawyer following viewing the mini documentary, “But I Was Wearing a Suit” about the racism that Indigenous lawyers and law students face within the legal profession. It is a grassroots project of a group of Indigenous Lawyers, produced with the support of CLEBC and the Law Society of BC
