Franklin Lew Forum (1st floor)
Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) is a national, multiple award-winning organization with chapters in 22 law schools across Canada. Supreme Court of Canada Justice Rosalie Abella has described PBSC as "one of the most visionary undertakings I have seen in my 40 years at the bar".
PBSC has partnerships with over 35 organizations, and matches law students to work on specific projects throughout the school year. The placement opportunities are extremely varied - our partner organizations work with Indigenous people, women and youth, the elderly, newcomers, prisoners, sex workers, and those who cannot afford legal services, to name a few. There are over 80 spots for student volunteers this year.
Through PBSC, students have the opportunity to network with lawyers, firms, and community organizations. They also develop hands-on legal skills through working on legal research and writing, public legal education, client assistance, and internship projects.
All past, present, and future volunteers are invited, as well as any interested students. This event provides a great opportunity to find out more about PBSC and how you can become invovled. This year, Nikki Gershbain, Chief Inclusion Officer at McCarthy Tetrault and former National Director of PBSC, will be speaking about the current access to justice crisis, as well as what kind of role law students can play early on in their career.
Be prepared to learn, be inspired, and get excited about great work happening right now in the legal profession. Lunch will be served and Pro Bono ethics will be aplenty.
We look forward to seeing you there!
