Verukah Poirier

Profile
Verukah Poirier is Métis and Cree from the Samson Cree Nation in Maskwacis, Treaty 6. She grew up in Williams Lake, BC and attended the University of British Columbia for her BA majoring in First Nations and Indigenous Studies. She is in her second year law student at the Allard School of Law. Verukah is a strong advocate for Indigenous student representation and recognition in post-secondary institutions. Prior to law school, Verukah was the President of the UBC Indigenous Committee, and advocated for the Indigenous specific funds and seats at decision making tables across the UBC campus. Verukah was the First Nations House of Learning Indigenous Wellness Project Assistant in 2020/2021. Currently, Verukah is the Indigenous Legal Studies JD Mentorship Coordinator, and a student assistant on the 2021 ILS Summer Intensive in Torts class.
