UBC announced today that Professor Bruce MacDougall has been appointed Dean pro tem for the Peter A. Allard School of Law for a one-year term, effective July 2, 2026.
Professor MacDougall has been a faculty member at the Peter A. Allard School of Law since 1988, and has served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Professional Programs. He has extensive experience in teaching at the JD and graduate level, and is a past recipient of the Killam Teaching Prize. He is also an accomplished writer and contributes yearly to publications for the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC. His work is frequently cited by the courts.
Professor MacDougall completed his legal studies at Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar (Maritime Provinces), and at Dalhousie University. He clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada for Justice Gerald Le Dain and practiced law in both Toronto and Vancouver. He is a member of the Bar of British Columbia. For over a dozen years he has been a member of the Judicial Council of the Tsawwassen First Nation and currently serves as Chair.
Professor Ngai Pindell's term as Dean for the Allard School of Law will conclude on June 30, 2026.
