Event Description
In this fireside chat, Professor Stacey will discuss her work with the Tŝilhqot’in Nation emerging from the Nation’s experiences in the 2017 wildfires extending through to Tŝilhqot’in revitalization of qwen (fire) laws. Contrary to dominant assumptions about Indigenous Peoples climate change and emergency discourses, this work documents how the Tŝilhqot’in use diverse strategies of resistance and resurgence. The Tŝilhqot’in Nation’s experiences reclaiming fire show how Indigenous resurgence provides pathways out of the climate crisis while also attending to its colonial roots and decolonizing the responses to it.
