Event Description
This hybrid panel discussion will examine a hot topic in AI and policing: the Edmonton Police Service’s first-in-the-world trial of facial recognition technology integrated into Axon's police body-worn cameras. This timely conversation will explore legal, ethical, technological, and human rights implications of real-time biometric surveillance in policing. The panel will feature short presentations followed by a moderated discussion. Invitations have been extended to representatives from civil society, academia, privacy and human rights communities, law enforcement, the Edmonton Police Service, and Axon. Final speakers will be confirmed and announced before the event.
This event is hosted by the UBC AI & Criminal Justice Initiative with financial support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
A light lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis for in-person attendees.
A Zoom webinar link will be provided to people who register shortly before the event begins.
