The Infringement of Rights in the Light of Federative Regulations for the Protection of Underage Football Players

Event Description

The objective of this research article is to conduct a detailed analysis, from the perspective of the possible infringement of human rights and fundamental rights, of FIFA regulations concerning international transfers of minors—more specifically, the general prohibition and the exceptions regulated for that purpose— all of which are set out in Article 19 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. To that end, the article first provides an overview of the regulation itself and then analyses its content, section by section, in order to identify the possible infringements that may arise. Finally, once the detailed study referred to above has been carried out, an assessment is made to determine whether the infringements identified are justified on the grounds that they are rational, objective and proportionate to the aim pursued.

The Zoom link will be shared the morning of the lecture.

*The event is eligible for 1.25 hours of Law Society of British Columbia CPD credit.
