CFLS Lecture Series – Sex, Wrongdoing, and Criminalization: Gaining Perspectives

Event Description

The CFLS is thrilled to welcome Professor Michelle Madden Dempsey, as part of her visit co-sponsored by Green College, for her lecture, “Sex, Wrongdoing, and Criminalization: Gaining Perspectives," which seeks to distinguish the question of what justifies sexual penetration from the question of what justifies various sociopolitical and legal responses to it.

The discussion will span:

  • The differences between the moral, sociopolitical, and legal normative perspectives and what illuminates when considering whether any given conduct constitutes wrongdoing;
  • How the moral perspective can be used to evaluate sociopolitical and legal responses to wrongdoing, shifting the perspective to the agents who respond to the wrongdoing; and
  • Evaluate, all things considered, whether the responses are justified

Light lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. No registration is required for in-person attendees.
